OPSA Installs First Pure PT in Spain at Getxo Sports Complex

OPSA has completed the installation of a new 6,330 m² artificial turf field in Getxo (Vizcaya), as part of a larger contract to renovate five pitches at the Fadura Sports Complex. The project was commissioned by Getxo Kirolak, the municipal sports organisation, with a clear focus on durability, sustainability, and year-round use.

The field will be used for rugby, football, and baseball. It features the PURE PT system, installed on a prefabricated 10 mm elastic layer that ensures fast drainage and consistent playability. The decision to work without infill contributes to lower maintenance and a cleaner, high performance playing surface for different types of sports and users.

Focus on Long-Term Performance

Getxo Kirolak’s selection of this system was based on long-term considerations. With no infill to manage, the surface simplifies upkeep while maintaining its properties over time. The field meets the EN-15330 standard and aligns with FIFA BASIC parameters.

The other four fields included in the contract are being installed with Slide Max ST 40, a conventional turf system with infill and elastic underlayer. OPSA is currently finalising the installation of the final two pitches.

Proven Under Pressure

The same system used in Getxo has been in place for more than three years at the PSV Eindhoven training grounds, where it continues to be tested under high-intensity use. Based on this experience, the PURE PT system was also selected for the technical areas and run-offs at the Philips Stadium, home to PSV.

This track record provided key input for the design and delivery of the Getxo project, particularly in balancing performance, comfort, and stability under demanding conditions.

Looking Ahead

OPSA will soon begin work on a new PURE PT field for a club in Spain’s top football division. The team expects to see growing interest in infill-free solutions that reduce environmental impact and simplify field operations.
