re:GEN brings future-proof manufacturing to Nijverdal

TenCate Grass Sustainable future

There is no prosperity without space for industry. In the Netherlands, that space is becoming increasingly scarce. That is why logistics developer WDP and the regional development agency HMO joined forces to make better use of existing sites, upgrade them, and make them more sustainable.

Through re:GEN, industrial locations in the Dutch province of Overijssel are being redeveloped for the future. The program strengthens the manufacturing base, creates jobs, and reduces environmental impact.

Why redevelop industrial sites?

Industry may take up only 2.5% of Dutch land, but it is vital for jobs, prosperity, and innovation. With no space left to expand, the answer lies in redeveloping existing locations. By making sites more efficient, attractive, and sustainable, re:GEN ensures that the right companies remain in the right places, while contributing to climate goals such as lower CO₂ emissions, reduced energy use, and smarter water management.

TenCate Grass in Nijverdal

TenCate Grass is part of this effort. In Nijverdal-Noord, the current two factories, some distance apart, will be replaced by one modern facility that brings together tradition and innovation. The new factory will cover more than 38,000 m², while actually reducing our current physical footprint, freeing up space for residential development. It is not just about increasing capacity, but about producing smarter and cleaner. Water and energy use will be drastically reduced, significantly lowering the environmental footprint of production.

Equally important is the role the new factory plays in strengthening employment in Nijverdal. Around 300 direct jobs will remain in place, with an additional 50 to 100 indirect jobs expected. TenCate continues to be one of the pillars of the regional manufacturing economy in Overijssel.

Construction started in September 2025, with completion scheduled for mid-2026. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in a history that dates back to 1704. A tradition of craftsmanship and textile innovation that is now carried forward with a facility showing how production, circularity, and future-readiness can go hand in hand.
